RESCU Foundation (Renaissance Entertainers, Services, and
Crafters United)
First I would like to let you know I’m not hitting you up
for money… although I would not turn it down.
I am working with the RESCU Foundation to find local
doctors, nurses, dentists, lawyers, and mental health professionals that would
be willing to perform discounted, or free, services for the renaissance
community.We are also looking for
anyone that can give first aid and or CPR training.
The RESCU Foundation is a federally compliant 501c3
organization.Utilizing donations, an
all volunteer staff, and an advocacy program they serve the financial needs of
the ren community in times of medical crisis.Very few of the faire professionals have medical or dental insurance and
they need our help. Also there is a need
for general health care and immunizations for children of faire professionals.
If any of you in the Dallas/Waxahachie area happen to be a
medical professional, or know someone that may be interested in helping out, please
let me know. You can contact me at tim@tukaram.net.Texas also has faires near Austin and Houston, they could also use our help.If you are in other parts of the country but
have a faire near you and want to help please contact the foundation at http://rescufoundation.org/
I thought I would share my age old, secret, family recipe for rum balls, that I just made up!
Rum Balls
Ingredients:
2 Cups Coconut
1 Cup Pecans
12 oz. Bag Vanilla Wafers
4 Tbsp Cocoa or Carob
2 Tsp. Vanilla
¼ Cup Corn Syrup
½ Cup Capt. Morgan Spiced Rum (NO substitutions allowed-seriously, trust me on this one!!)
½ Cup Granulated Sugar
Procedure:
In a food processor finely chop pecans, cookies, and coconut, to almost a flour consistency. Put the dry ingredients in a mixing bowl and add cocoa, mix well. (pick out any large pieces and set aside for snacking) Add vanilla, rum, and corn syrup. Mix thoroughly, using a spatula, or by hand. (a little rum for the cook, a little rum for the mix, a little more for the cook, a little more for the cook…)
Roll into 1" balls and roll the balls in the granulated sugar. Place on waxed paper. They are edible right away but after a couple days the flavors merge very well.
